Slow cold starting, rough idle, then runs fine after 15 seconds???

Hey fellas. Have been having the same "cold start, poor initial idling" problem. Narrowed it down to a bad IAC valve. Betcha a new, Mopar IAC solves your probs.

Some questions;
1. Is the starter cranking fast and it's just taking a long time to fire up?
2, Or is the starter cranking slowly and it's just taking a long time to fire-up?

If it's Case 1, you could have lost your check-valve in the fuel tank. So when you shutdown, the fuel in the line, between the engine and gastank, is flowing back into the gastank. So on the next start-up, the fuel-pump has to refill/repressurize the fuelline before the injectors can work properly. That may cause the engine to initially run rough for awhile before the fuel pressure is normal. Fix? An inexpensive aluminium check-valve installed in the rubber fuel line exiting the gastank.

If it's Case 2, it may be a bad starter ground. Quick check? Take a a set of starter cables and attach the black cable to the battery negative(ground) terminal . Clamp the other end of the black battery negative(ground) cable to a bolt holding the starter into the engine. Start engine and see if it starts quickly. If it does, you have a bad ground at the starter. Fix? Make up a No.2 sized battery cable; attach one end to the negative battery terminal and the other end to a starter mounting bolt.

Best regards,

CJR
