I'd like to ream the driver's side knuckle from the top, and put the tie rod on top of the knuckle. I've heard of using Chevy 1-ton TREs, but the size is different from my current tie rod. (BigDaddy) The Chevy TRE is a 7/8" thread, and the tie rod is 5/8".
Is there a heavy-duty TRE that can be installed from the top of a re-reamed knuckle that will fit a standard tie rod?
OR, is there enough steel in the knuckle to simply ream from the top and use a stock TRE?
FWIW, I currently run the Goferit bushing to put the TRE on top. It works fine, but I'm just not crazy about the TRE being held to the knuckle with a standard nut instead a castle nut. Yes, I used loctite!
