Buried a good Jeep friend today...

Today I was the pallbearer in my friend Dennis' funeral. He was diagnosed with lung cancer about 2 years ago and died Friday morning. I met him in January of 02 on me and Katey(ex wife) first Jeep trip, which was to the Badlands. He was always quick with a joke and would help out anyone. He helped me on the old XJ and a car I had. We went on dozen's of Jeep runs together, from Tellico to Redbird to Haspin to the Badlands.
On his casket was Indyjeepers and below that was -It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand.
He had some flower arrangements there with Jeeps in them, his Jeep hat, etc. What was most touching-A member of the club drove his Jeep(98 TJ 5" lift Front D44 and Ford 9" out back and I think Detroits front and back.) Behind Dennis' Jeep was a trailer with his casket. So, all the Jeepers lined up behind his and the rest of the procession behind us. We then proceeded the 5 some odd miles through the West side of Indy with a police escort. The route took us right by the Indy Motor Speedway.
When we got there, they had "Simple Man" by Lynard Skynard playing. I've been crying off and on since I got there this morning and last night for the showing. This was the utmost display of Jeepers being there for friends and family.
We'll miss you Dennis, keep on Jeepin'!

Sorry to hear about anyone who died from cancer.Sounds like you guys pulled together and made it something special, I'm sure he was glad to have friends like you. RIP Dennis.

i hope my funeral kicks that much ass some day. i wanna be buried on top of a mountain. then they can have a train of jeeps with my casket on somebodys roof rack all truckin up the mountain.

not to be joking and i truly do understand the pain youre feeling. ive buried far too many friends myself. but that is one cool funeral. if there was such a thing.

You are right, it was awesome. To hear all those rigs and some not even street worthy rumble down next to the 500 track was awesome. Not all were Jeeps, some sky high Ranger, some full size Chevy and a 47 Willys as well.Well, it's a Jeep but you know what I mean.. 3 modded XJ's and 1 stock XJ representing. TJ's, YJ's. This is what he wanted and that's what he got. He was a great guy to wheel with and wrench with.

They are never gone as long as you remember them.

Condolences.

Let me know if you need anything.

Adam

This thread ISN'T worthless w/o pics, but got any?

Awesome way to honor someone and what they love.

May Dennis Rest in Peace.

I know there were pics of the procession that some made, but don't know when I'd come across them. Don't blame ya for asking. Yes, Dennis was a great guy who would do anything for anyone, esp. a Jeeper.

Thanks all!

thats awsome. My dad died of cancer. He was a big jeeper but only few friends drove their jeeps to his funeral. It sounds like he was a hell of a guy. Sorry to hear about your loss. Dennis sounds like a good friend.
