I just turned "RED" and can finally post here. I recieved this last week and wanted to share it with California members . The text below is from another assemblyman who opposes it. I sure hope it FAILS! Sorry for the length but it includes contact info. as well

Assembly to Consider Severe Restrictions on Ammunition Sales -- Contact Committee Members Today!
Yesterday, April 8, the Assembly Public Safety Committee considered legislation that would require gun owners to obtain a "permit-to-purchase" before buying handgun ammunition.
The bill passed out of committee despite Assemblyman Anderson's no vote. AB 2062's next committee assignment is the Committee on Appropriations.
Assembly Bill 2062 would require that law-abiding gun owners obtain a permit to buy handgun ammunition and would impose severe restrictions on the private transfers of handgun ammunition. Applicants for a "permit-to-purchase" would be required to submit to a background check, pay a $35 fee, and wait as long as 30 days to receive the permit.
Under AB2062, it would be unlawful to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require vendors to keep a record of the transaction including the ammunition buyer's name, driver's license, the quantity, caliber and type of ammunition purchased, and right thumbprint, which would be submitted to the Department of Justice or the number of their handgun ammunition purchase permit.
All ammunition sales in the State of California would be subject to a $3 per transaction tax. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited. Any violator of AB2062 would be subject to civil fines.
Please email Assemblyman Anderson and let him know you support his efforts against this outrageous attack on our second amendment rights!

Please also contact the members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee TODAY and respectfully urge them to oppose this onerous attack on our Second Amendment freedoms.

Gawd. I was wondering when this would come up again. Sac'to comes up with some of the most dumbass ideas I've seen. Other things they've tried:

Outlawing "strike anywhere" matches (failed. A couple of times.)
"Microstamping" serial numbers into the chambers of firearms, so that it would be impressed into the cartridge (dumb idea, largely impractical, and what if the crook polices his brass?)
Outlawing knives with blades longer than two inches. Yes, all of them. Including table knives, butter knives, ... It would probably take care of utility knives (those blades are, what, 2-3/4" long?) And what about tools, like "putty knives"? Good thing that one fell flat.
"Ballistic Fingerprinting" - this is little more than a joke. Supply fired cases to add to the database? Easy enough to change the "fingerprint" of a firearm - you don't really even have to change parts to make that happen. Oops.

I grew up in Indiana. I'm not a Californian, I'm an "expatriated American." My wife grew up out here, and she's tired of the asininity as well.

As far as ammo, I'm glad I handload. I have a large quantity of brass, and I drive cross-country about twice every three years. Gives me a chance to pick stuff up as I need it...

There is nothing even remotely adventurous about this thread… why don’t you move it to the SoCal/Sierra Forums where it is more likely to be seen by your target audience?
Because "Guns" are also part of this forum.

Adventure Forum A place for outdoor side of your XJ/MJ. Discussions revolve around camping, equipment, and camping trailers. As well as outdoor activities that take off from your XJ/MJ like hiking, geocoaching, and rock climbing. Also the place to discuss tips and hints for the best places to camp off the beaten path.

There are tons of us who think that going out with our Jeeps and shooting are like peanutbutter and Jelly.

Also what happens in California has a huge trickle down effect into other states. Just cause its happening there doesn't mean the rest of the country shouldn't be concerned about it.

I don't see any mention of guns there, Ryan. The legal aspect makes for an even less adventurous topic than most gun related posts that end up in the Adventure Forum. I don't consider writing my congressman an adventure, nor do I consider buying or owning a gun an adventure. I feel that guns in general are off topic material, state related gun legal issues would be best addressed in the appropriate chapter forum. Now if you have an adventure involving guns, this is the right place. Here is a great example:

How about a seperate gun forum? Randy will probably shoot me for suggesting another sub-forum!

I agree!!!! Before the big server crash a number of months back, the Adventure Forum was starting to get some good info relating to Adventure style travel and vehicle mods. After the crash it has become the "Gun Forum". I don't have anything against guns and actually was the youngest person to get their Hunter Safety License in CA. I haven't been into shooting for a while as my ex-wife was anti-gun.

Let's talk about Adventure Stuff. :D

When this forum was created (I was there helping create it) Guns was always part of the plan.

Sorry if you dont see it that way. And your sense of adventure can be totally different from mine and others.

Guns are always an adventure to me.

Get posting! :laugh3:

On the topic of gun threads, i think the forum is big enough for it all. Some have different opinions of what "Adventure" topics consist of but were adults here... give each other space and respect. No reason we cant have it all..

This is what I was thinking when I posted the info. on this forum. I thought people not only in California, but around the country should at least be aware of this measure because if it does pass, it most assuredly WILL have some sort of trickle down affect to other States, AND have an affect on alot of people's Outdoor Adventures. Sorry if some don't agree.:patriot:

It saddens me to see you write that, Ryan. You need to get out more. Why don't you go on Hole in the Rock with us? You could sell a gun for gas money! :D
Why does it sadden you?

Some of my fondest memories have to do with being out with my family, in the desert shooting.

I know I am not the only one here.

Are you afraid of guns Alex? Maybe another one of these guys who don't see a need for them?

To me, having a gun with me is just as much a part of camping as a tent, GPS, or my jeep.

BTW, I will be in San Rafael while you guys are doing Hole in the Rock.....shooting and wheeling.

Ryan, I think you are seeing anti-gun sentiment where there is none. I have owned several models of civilian and military firearms in my life. Our difference in opinion centers on how we view the concept of adventure, this is the Adventure Forum, right? I see adventure as being experience-oriented, especially where you go out of the comfort zone of your daily grind or get to see new places. This forum should be a place that inspires others to just that. I never said you could not post about guns, just that there are more appropriate forums here on NAXJA for that. Now if you and your family take a trip out to the Swell to do some wheelin’ and shootin’, the Adventure Forum is a perfect place to share the experience. Posting about one state’s pending gun legislation isn’t going to inspire anyone to go anywhere. A debate over whether it is called a “clip” or a “magazine” is a perfect example of the kind of gun post that is pointless in an Adventure Forum. Change the name to the Outdoor Gear Forum if that is what you really wanted to talk about here and I’ll quit bugging on the subject.

I havn't been opposed to any gun topic threads to date in the Adventure Forum though Personally I prefer to see non adventure gun topic discussion in the off topic section where they seem to gather a bigger audience/discussion. There does seem to be a lack of adventure here (in the adventure forum in general).

The way Alex wrote that last reply makes perfect sense and some topics do seem out of place or perhaps the forum was just not named properly after all. Same goes for how to operate a GPS or what hiking boots you buy IMHO. Maybe a specific gear discussion area would be appropriate, or for an easier solution title it Adventure & Gear Forum. Now if you show us using your hiking boots/GPS/guns (ie hunting trips etc) on some adventure (hopefully with pictures so they are not useless) that would fit the title better anyway. This is all debatable of course and may even be worthy of it's own thread, probably in the members forum. Sorry for dragging it a little further along on this thread.

Back on topic, I hope some Californians don't go and do something stupid again, seems like every year there is something that comes up over there wich causes me to wonder and hope.

This forum was created to cater to all sorts of outdoor gear, adventures and everything.

In fact right in the title it says Discussions revolve around camping Equipment and camping trailers.

If we lose the right to have our Equipment then what will be the point?

Honestly, if you do not like the threads about guns, post something else up and don't read them.

OK Ryan, I understand that you feel guns are vital camping equipment. Does that mean the adventure Forum is the place to post about beer, cigars, bocce ball sets, those inflatable pink flamingo tent stakes and all the other accoutrements of camping?

I’ll make you a deal. Resurrect A Stitch in Time. That was The Best Post Ever. Put it here in the Adventure Forum. I will ignore all of the gun posts. Seriously Ryan, those old photos you shared of places that we can no longer go has inspired me to get out and see as much as I can, while I still can. What I really want is for the Adventure Forum to be an inspiration to others to get out and see this world for themselves. As you and I both know, the right to drive to these places can be taken away. If we loose that right then what will be the point?

I would bet that there are a hell of a lot more guys here who think the same about guns as I do.

Pink Flamingo tent stakes? Is there there something you aren't telling us Alex? :D

I could do it again, but it could also just be moved and bumped. Would be easier for me. :D

I dunno, I think only criminally minded folks and you western gun-tootin' yay-hoos have guns. I know I won't have anything to do with something so inherently evil.

Speaking of which, do you have Friday off? I never made it back out to see that eagle/coyotes, wanna go Friday? I'm loading up ammo for my Obama-Hammer (the half-black, half-white big mouth from back east- Gun, not socialist).
