the only gps that use google right now seem to be blackberry phones and the like, then i found this

thoughts from real gps users?

that's a good solution for strictly navigating in your vehicle, as it is not very portable. so if you are not looking for portability, and have no issues mounting a laptop or tablet somewhere in your Jeep......it would work out very well.

i needed something that i could easily move between vehicles and use for geocaching/hiking/etc.....so this would not have been a good setup for me. though, it is pretty cool :)

I just picked up a TomTom for the wife and you can e-mail google maps placemarks and info to it. I have not tried this yet but it looks cool. Both TomTom and google maps/earth use tele atlas basemap data, street centerline.

EDIT: Now that I took the 2.3 seconds to look at your link that looks like it would be a cool solution, although pricey if you do not already have the laptop.

I have a garmin 60csx that i run into my tablet. I use google eath with trail maps downloaded from traildamage.com. If you pay the $20/year for google earth plus it will live track using a gps. In properties of google earth I set my cache to the maximum of 2 gigs and then zoom into the areas I will be going to "load" the images/maps. It works great.
