Alternator relocation
After replacing my alternator for the second time in six months, I realize that it might be a good investment to relocate it to a "safer" place on the engine.
The spot that the A/c pump resides in looks tempting, but the a/c still works and still has R-12 in it. Has anyone ever relocated their alternator? I've found many threads about replacing it, protecting it, and upgrading it, but only two that even mentioned relocating it. Why not? I realy enjoy the mucky, muddy stuff up here, so any help is apriciated. |

Re: Alternator relocation
Try looking for pics involved with an onbaord welder. that is one Jeep here that has the second alternator next to the a/c unit. But you could easily move the alternator to this postion. It will however require you to move the battery.

Re: Alternator relocation
how bout this , it would take some good fab work. Most of the research has been done here. But he is using it as a welder .. there is no reason why it can be set up to be used as a alternatro instead .. Just move the OEM wiring up and do it.. This would not be bolt in by any means , but if yoiu are really tired of replacing alternators it might be a thought. He doesnt do any thing about tensioning the belt but if you are gonna go that far might as well go the whole nine yards..It wouldnt be that difficult.
But it would involve more than just moving the battery. http://home.off-road.com/~wanderingw...ntrol_box4.JPG here is the link for the writeup for the alternator movement.. actaully he uses a ford alternator but you could simply use a OEM jeep alt instead |
