ABS What years, and when changed
What years offered ABS and when did they change from the Bendix? I'm looking at an '88 Chief with Selec-trac tomorrow and wondering if this had ABS?
What is necessary to remove the ABS from the system? |

ABS was not available in 1968. The Bendix ABS system was first offered in 1989.
To confirm, look under the hood at the right (passenger) side of the firewall. The ABS pump mounts back in the corner near the plastic coolant bottle above the blower motor. If it's not there, you don't have ABS.

The Bendix POS system was gone after the '91 build year. If the '88 you are looking at has a vacuum booster on the driver side and no pump on the passenger side it does not have ABS.
The ABS can be removed with minimal difficulty and I do not recommend anyone run the Bendix system for any longer than they have to. It is a real death trap IMHO. Bones ![]() Bendix survivor |
