Built a box.
![]() Started mocking up the tongue with the m416 pintle fitting. ![]() Had to cut a side out to mimic the original channel and then bolted it up. ![]() ![]() Logan helped me check that we were in the ballpark. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

My M416 restomod/hole to throw money in
Bolted the brackets down.
![]() The m416 axle is 6 inches wider than the m100 axle. I didn’t realize this was a problem until Nate and I started talking about moving spring perches. I found a guy in GA with NOS m100 axles. Same brakes, same hubs, just 6 inches narrower. ![]() Looks like I’ll be able to bolt it up as is. The spring brackets will be done this weekend and I just need to order new u bolts to make it a roller. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

All of the suspension brackets, the Pintle fitting and pintle, the hubs and brakes, parking brake handle, safety chains, wheels and tires, shackles, and the landing leg.
Those are the expensive parts that fetch good money on eBay. I have a new tub, new frame, new springs, used military lights and new electrical wiring and junction boxes. Even with the cost of the original trailer, I should be under $2k when I’m done. That’s pretty good considering commercial alternatives. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Nice to see you around again.
Looks like good progress on the trailer.

Mocked up the piece of the original frame to mark the holes for the safety chain/lunette fitting bolt.
![]() Drilled some holes and test fit the bolt and brackets. ![]() ![]() I ordered axle u bolts. After I mount the axle I need to figure out where the shock mounts are going to be on the frame. Next is putting the frame and the tub back together and welding the mount tabs and installing the rivnuts to mount the tub to the frame. |

Re: My M416 restomod/hole to throw money in
what's the weight rating of the trailer axle? Is there a difference between the old one and the new one?
mac 'looking good!' gyvr

The axles are the same other than one is narrower than the other.
The military trailers are 1/4 ton. I’d have to google to know the axle rating. The hubs are the same from the mbt, m100, the export m101 and the m416. Big bearings and spindles. I thought about a bunch of different solutions but there’s a joint in GA that has a stack of NOS axles for $125 on ebay. It was the easiest solution to my narrower tub problem. |

Re: My M416 restomod/hole to throw money in
Is that really the sort of shackle these trailers originally used? Seems odd to me to see shackle on only one side of the leaf spring, wouldn't that put odd stresses on the hanger?

Same design as a Willy’s Jeep, both military and civilian after the war.
The shackle is threaded and the sleeve that goes over it is threaded on the inside and the outside. I don’t know the exact dates, but m416a1’s were used at least through Vietnam. Same shackle design. |
