P0122 (TPS)

Have an issue w/ my 99. Been running like poo for quite a while. Bad (well, worse than normal) mileage, no power, etc.

Past week, replaced the exhaust manifold (old one was cracked), O2 sensors (oem), plugs, wires, distributor, rotor, air filter, valve cover breathers/hoses, manifold gasket, TB gasket, fuel injector orings, etc. Ran nice and smooth immediately after the work. Only problem is a P0122 (TPS) code.

I connected to it with Torque and cleared the code. It threw the same code immediately on the next start. Cleared the ECM. Same thing. I pulled out a spare (believe it's good) TPS and swapped. Same code.

What would your next step be? I'm beginning to think wiring, which I hate troubleshooting.

Re: P0122 (TPS)

powercycle the car first of all.

Check engine grounds.

buy another sensor Either go junkyard or ebay it.
call me crazy but for the last few years I have been getting the part #'s and buying Taiwanese sensors on ebay. they are like $4-10 depending on which u buy. and honestly its the same stuff you are getting at pep boys most of the time.

Break out the meter and backprobe the TPS sensor.

Re: P0122 (TPS)

A faulty Powertrain Control Module can also cause that code error.

Re: P0122 (TPS)

Genuine Jeep TPS or a cheap crappy Chinese/Taiwanese clone TPS ? Most auto parts stores sell cheap crappy Chinese made parts, some that even come with a " Lifetime Warranty". These parts are poorly manufactured and/or made from inferior materials. They are often out of specification, or even failed, right out of the box. The ones that are not faulty many times will have a short service life before they fail. Always buy top quality replacement parts and genuine Jeep engine sensors. Numerous threads detail long and frustrating searches for a "problem" that ended up being cured simply with genuine Jeep repair parts. Cheap parts are cheap for a reason.

Test the TPS

I would also look at the TPS plug for corroded, bent, or pushed back wire pins, and physically/visually inspect the TPS wire harness for chafed or melted wire insulation and failed wire splices.

P0122 JEEP - Throttle Position Sensor Circuit Low Input

P0122 JEEP Possible Causes
•Faulty throttle position sensor
•Throttle position sensor harness is open or shorted
•Throttle position sensor circuit poor electrical connection

Re: P0122 (TPS)

Reset the pcm (battery disconnect/ground/lights on off/etc), great since. On a different note, my POS Magnaflow cat is bad.
