Problems shifting.

My 88 wagoneer lmtd. won't automatically shift through the gears when in drive, it just bogs down and won't go anywhere. The only way I can get it rolling right is start off in first and shift my way up to drive. It is an automatic transmission. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.

you need to check the fuse for TCU on the passenger side under the glove box first had the same prob.

Shifting is controlled electronically by the TCU (Transmission Control Unit). If you lose power to the TCU you can still shift it manually, but it won't shift automatically. You also lose either first or second ... don't recall which.

Just went through the same problem with my wife's Kia Sportage.
