Re: DIY Front Bumper

I got one for Xmas, Haven’t put it together yet but looks like simple job. When we get it welded up I’ll know more. Should be good stout bumper. Let you know how it turns out. Sage

DIY Front Bumper

Just pulled the trigger on the eBay rear bumper (mate to the above bumper).

I will report back to this thread on it when I get to it.

Re: DIY Front Bumper

I usually build my own bumpers, but a couple years ago I bought 2 Dirtbound DIY kits, They are well thought out, it still takes a bunch of lay-out/welding/grinding but they did save a lot of time cutting/shaping material.

Same here. Have the Mohave front and rear. It was a fun build but glad to be finished with them.

Re: DIY Front Bumper

If you want a real challenge, I used a piece of 2x2 .120" for my top tube with a radius bend to match my body-line.

DIY Front Bumper

Got this rear bumper just about ready for paint.

The lines are great, nice simple layout. Been welding and grinding up a storm, itís a tone of work...but Iíve enjoyed it. Like mentioned above, Iíll be glad to be done with it soon...lol.

Re: DIY Front Bumper

The bumper itself looks good, but the mounting "sucks", at least my DirtBound had tie-in brackets to the frame rail.

There are tie-ins to the frame, I just didnít post a picture of them...

1/4Ē plate, welded to 1/4Ē 2x4 tube, pre-cut and drilled to grab 5 holes per rail, pre welded grade 8 nuts paired with grade 8 bolts, 5 per side. Iíd say that doesnít ďsuckĒ too bad.

DIY Front Bumper

Got the bumper finished up. Iím pretty happy with how it turned out.

It was a lot more work than anticipated. Iím not sure Iíll do the mate DIY bumper for the font, or buy one to bolt on. Iím sort of burnt out as far as working on the Jeep...I need to get to wheeling it/having fun with it. After a while I might reconsider and do the front one...we shall see.

Re: DIY Front Bumper

Looks very nice cant wait to see someone post something about the front winch bumper.
If it is anything like the rear it is well worth the cost saving from a JCR.

Re: DIY Front Bumper

So I don't have a way of posting pictures here. But I did the JCR Diy front bumper kit a few years ago and I Loved It! Very Stout, first time off-roading in the jeep with it on, smashed right into a tree with no effects to the bumper. Mind you I wasn't doing 100mph+ but I was doing at least 20mph trying to get up a steep muddy hill.
I did a pre-runner bar to the front for some protection against brush and small trees from coming in contact with the winch fairlead. And had it bedlined. All in all if you find them on sale and don't mind doing the work. Then they are totally worth it, but after doing a front and rear bumper I now understand why they want $$$ that they do.
