building a roof mount light bar... how high off the roof should the mounting face be?

once I decide this part I am just 4 quick welds, some grinding, and bed liner away from mounting this bad boy

I can't offer a measurement since I've never built one or don't have one. But if I was building it I would mount them as low a possible to keep overall height down.

I didn't build mine but it mounts to my roof rack side rails and is about 3 inches off of the roof. Low profile is good especially since lights can be large. I have 4 KC daylighters on mine. I got the bar from www.rockratz.com
