97 xj rear axle question

I found a 97 at the junkyard and it has a 8.25 in the rear and a five speed tranny.What are the chances that the 8.25 is a 29 spline with a 3.07 ratio since its a 97 with a 5speed?Didn't have time to look the other day...:cheers:

Yup. The 29-spline C8.25 started in late-1996. Prior to that, the 1991-to-late-96 C8.25 was a 27-spline variety.

Gearing was dependent on the transmission, not the axle. With the 4.0L, sticks had the 3.07 while the auto gained the 3.55 gears. I don't recall any 3.73-geared 1990+ XJs, although the 4.10 could be found behind most 4-cyls of that era.
 
well this sucks.Went to the yard to pull it today and it had the freakin 2.5 in it which means 4.10 gears....anyone interested in it?
Might pick it up tommorrow because its 29 spline....
 
i would love to take it but i am in CA!!! arg.
