ZJ bumper rear options

I've tried searching for a reasonably priced rear bumper for a 1998 ZJ. I've thought about just getting another plastic cover but was wondering what all might be out there that I'm overlooking.

I've found a few front bumpers (JCR and ARB) that I like. Rear bumpers seem to be a whole other animal. I've seen the rear bumper that Bleepin Jeep build for project Cheap Jeep but I'd like a DIY precut or complete unit.

What am I missing?

Well if they are anything like WJ's basically limited selection that cost a fortune.

Poked around and found these....not sure if it's what you're after.

The main ones I found were made by Rockhard4x4, Tomken and Hanson.

The Rockhard unit is probably my favorite and runs $685. Everyone says stay away from Hanson as they seem to have issued delivering. Tomken looks pretty basic for the money.

I like the Ares, I just wish it took care of the corners. The DIY looks like the unwelded version of the Rockhard unit.

I did find a decent plastic bumper cover today so I do have more time to decide now.

Gotcha, I'll eventually probably fab mine for the WJ. Most I've looked at are 1k plus for those bumpers and nothing that's really special. I'm not a fan of the big body ones that wrap around the quarter panels.

The bumpers that wrap around just seem so big and bland. The Rockhard unit seems to contour this area a bit, making it seem less "slab-sided".

I like the Ares design as it looks lightweight. Maybe I could use it as a starting point and build some sides for it to give some tail light protection and to give it a more finished look behind the rear wheels.

I agree. Well good luck!

I have the Hard rock with the tire rack, not only is it an awesome bumper and rack their customer service is the best of any company I have dealt with. Spend the money you wont be sorry
