Code P0720

Ok so my jeep has been having some problems shifting out of second gear when I first drive it, after it shifts for the first time it shifts just fine the rest of day. Couple days ago I got a code involving my output shaft speed circuit malfunction. Just wanted to get some ideas to what it could be before dropping money on a sensor that I have read typically doesn’t fix the problem. Anyone care to throw suggestions on best plan of action?

I would start by inspecting the wiring to the output speed sensor. The wiring harness and sensor are on the drivers side towards the rear, and it hard to get to with the xfer case shifter stuff in the way. Also, the front input speed sensor is the exact same part number if you wanted to try swapping them.


It is fairly rare for the speed sensors to go bad. What was the code?
