Re: changed oil. car dies now.
so.
new optima and cleaned the 3 grounds by the dipstick. she runs. Shes still giving this random stall/misfire 1 second every 60 seconds. gonna put a few miles on her and see if the stutter goes away. she seems down on power. ALL CEL'S ARE GONE ! |

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
if the stutter doesn't go away I think new spark plugs might be in order.
But the main issue appears fixed. |

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
putting around the complex. she runs. does not stall.
Any throttle over 30-40% and she sputters and stumbles. Since The only change has been cleaning the grounds on the distributor side I am hoping replacing the distributor then the coil is next on the agenda. distributor doesn't arrive til monday. meh.... |

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
That is at least progress.
I am going to suggest you consider going beyond just cleaning those connections. See this thread: https://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1148570 Examine your wires carefully. If they are like mine were they may be hard and brittle. That is a symptom which tells me those wires are not up to their job anymore. Higher resistance changes how sensors and the computer are able to do their job.

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
Anak my grounds looked like yours.. I was a tad worried about this too... good writeup. thats probly next for me.
I took a dremmel wire wheel to the 3 dipstick grounds all are shiny and di-electric greased now. since I have already purchased the distributor. I am gonna throw it in. The more that I think about this also. I replaced the coil with a cheap one. I just bought an MSD coil just for peace of mind. |

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
After a ton more research. Narrowed down to.
Bad cps. Replaced once. Still can't rule it out. Bad distributor. New one arrives today. Bad coil. New one arrives Friday Bad ground. Cleaned up the grounds but may need additional work This could also be a pcm/ecu failure or harness failure |

When was the last time that you changed the fuel filter? Just wondering. |

New distributor tests good.
Since it came with the car side of the wiring harness gonna solder it in tomorrow. Updates to come. |

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
Anak. I went to my go to for wiring and spent like $10 for enough stuff to solder in a new ground. Knukonceptz is always my go to.
I am pretty much gonna copy your guide cept I am gonna run a ground from the block side to the negative on the battery. call it overkill. but I am taking no chances at this point. If replacing the coil fixes this I am gonna be so confused. but I am replacing the $7 ebay coil with an msd blaster one. |

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
Extra grounds certainly won't hurt.
I don't recall exactly what the difference was, but I do recall that I had some notable improvement when I ran a new, larger ground between the battery and the top of the radiator support. It may have been that my headlights ceased acting like they were wired by Lucas. It was something of that scale. I have since added in relays for my headlights, really putting an end to that nonsense. Having a good source for quality wiring components is important. I have been using Waytek for a couple of decades. They don't scale down particularly well for most folks' needs, but I don't mind having enough on hand to not have to worry about it the next time. It doesn't seem like copper ever gets cheap.

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
so.
The msd coil is installed. Maybe 5% better running sounding. no huge change. Distributor is a different design on the inside compared to mine. Mine is like this one https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl... ct=mrc&uact=8 And the one I bought is like this. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&sour...75592117857422 Can I use this in the 92 ? |

Re: changed oil. car dies now.
The link for the one you bought isn't taking me anywhere useful. Hard to compare without half the comparison.
That said, if the plug is the same the odds are the two are interchangeable (assuming both have the same external properties/mounting provisions). Folks have been playing around with distributor innards for decades. There are a number of different ways to trigger a coil (or computer).
