Throttle Position Sensor?

Ok, so about 2 weekends ago my water pump went out, so I replaced it over the weekend. The next day, we had huge rains for about three days and while I was at work, I had forgotton to cover my hood vents. The next day I get in the jeep and my idle is acting odd, a bit sporadic, my transmission doesn't want to shift right (draws out the gears, takes a long time to shift from 1st to 2nd) and then when I brake for a stop sign, it will die.

Did my throttle position sensor get wet? That was my #1 guess. Thanks in advance

fuel injectors are very close by. i recently had one go out from someone spilling coolant on it. running on 5of6 can cause a lack of power...
bust out the voltmeter and diagnose the tps, thats the only way to find out.

Yes that is your TPS. I have hood vents and have had to replace my TPS 3 times now. Each TPS I remove is filled with rust. I currently run a small sheet of cardboard over the throttle body to keep water out of my TPS.

I am having the same problem with my 1992. My xj studers under power and almost dies every time I come to a stop. I checked my codes and it shows a 24 which is TPS. I thought it was no problem but so far I have tried two different new sensors and a Junk Yard one. I have removed my battery cables every time to reset my computer but it still comes on almost every time. I have cleaned the connection and have even tried turn my car off while at 4k rpm. Nothing seems to be working. I hoping someone has some advise because if I can not figure it out soon I will have to bite the bullet and take it to an electrical specialist. Please help!!! I have read every thread and post about the stupid thing but like i said nothing has worked so far. Thanks for any help!!!

did you test the tps curcuit with a meter to see if it is out of spec.

i would also check/clean the ground strap from the head to fire wall and check the ground to the tps.

I just finished the install of my new 1ga ground strap from the head to the firewall as suggested. I have driven it for about ten minutes after the install and started it 3 times. So far so good, the light has not come back on. I would like to test the voltage to see if this sensor is good but I have read so many different procedures that I'm confused. Please help me decipher the numbers. Thanks for all the help!! I have checked the voltages with the ignition in the on position and with the sensor connected. Drivers side wire (purple) to Middle wire (orange) Closed Throttle= 4.28v WOT=1.15v , Middle wire (orange) to Passenger side wire (black) Closed Throttle=.73v WOT=3.83v, Drivers side wire (purple) to Passenger side wire (black) Closed Throttle=5.01v WOT=5.01v -SEAN JONES

So I've been using an obd2 scan tool to monitor the various data the PCM sees. As I was monitoring the tp% I noticed that it varied b/t 8% at idle and 77% at WOT--this is should be closer to 100%, right? I took it off the tb and used a screwdriver and it varied from 0-91%. I tried a spare used tps and it was reading 6-72% installed(2 bad sensors?). I didn't get around to backprobing the sensor, but if the voltage was low coming in wouldn't there also be low voltage coming out and the pcm thinks it's 77% instead of 100(or is it inverse like the renix: low voltage for WOT, high for idle, in which case maybe it's high voltage coming in and going out)? I already verified that the throttle linkage is good and the throttle plate vertical when the pedal is floored. I hope it's not another conflict with me using a 97pcm(temp fix) on a 96(the a/c is already a victim)--I haven't been to the JY in a while to see if there is a 96 MT pcm available.
