Ketless entry fob

I have a 96 XJ with the IR tx to unlock the doors. To buy a used replacement fob is over $100. Is there an aftermarket replacement? Or, do I have to just replace the crappy IR system with a more modern setup?

I never found a cheap IR alternative. I bought a cheapo Audiovox remote lock system and only wired in enough to trigger the door locks and flash the lights. No horn beep.

I fact they were so cheap I bought two so I could already have spare remotes.

This.
The newer systems are much better, plus you can add remote start (a personal favorite of mine for winter months).

That is true. We had a real soaker here a week ago. Wind was crazy too, 65mph gusts.

i tapped into the original keyless entry wires on my 90. and stuffed the module above the overhead console. only needed to run a wire down to the parking lights to get them to flash when it would unlock or lock.

I put mine under the center console (no overhead). The lock relays are behind the pass side kick panel on my 88. Simply spliced the lock/unlock wires, pwr, acc, and lights!
