Gah, digital cameras

I need a new one but I'm undecided on what I should get.

What I need:
Crystal clear pictures
Speedy(ish) performance
HD video - at least 720

What I'd like:
Powerful zoom
3" LCD screen

I do NOT want a dSLR; I'd like something smaller and cheaper. My budget is around $300.

Thanks.

The G11 doesn't take HD video. The LX3 looks like it takes pretty good pictures - though I'd be worried about buying a camera that's 2 years old.

I looked at that but I have concerns that the pictures may not be the sharpest. I have already tried the Casio EX-FC150, Olympus Tough 6020 and a Sony camera. I was pretty disappointed with all three. My fiancees older Canon took better pictures than the three I've already tried.

Looked at the Casio® EXILIM :D :D :D

Yeah, I was looking at pictures that other people took and I really liked the quality. I need to see if I can find one I can hold before I buy.

Rich - what?

Hallo. If you want shoot good quality pictures, buy a good and simple camera like Panasonic.
If you want to shoot video, buy a videocamera. (big zoomlens is not usefull).

p.s. Nice new avatar Rich P.

I've gotten great use out of my Panasonic Lumix LX-3. It is my travel camera and also for hikes where the size and weight of my DSLR would be a problem.

Cave photos are hand-held using LED headlamps as the sole source of illumination. Pretty good low light performance for a pocket camera if you ask me!

I also use it for video:

I have not been disappointed with its image quality even when comparing the results to my D700, which I frequently use at the same time. The LX-3 has full manual control and a true wide angle f/2.0 lens. It has a pop up flash and a hot shoe for strobist capability. Olympus flashes work perfectly in ttl mode.

Lemme know if you want to buy it, I really need to replace it with a waterproof camera.

Wow - those low-light pictures are pretty good. I tested out the Olympus Tough 6020 but was thoroughly unimpressed. I have test pictures from it if you'd like to see.

PM coming your way.
