My girl friends son kicked a ball under the Jeep, when I was crawling under it I noticed this.

It appears to be rubber and as you can see, its cracked all the way through. Its free floating and doesn't look like it broke off of anything. Is teh XJ safe to drive? What is this thing?

Not neccesarily. If thats a factory front driveshaft that was used in the rear, then ya fine, go pull another one. If its an aftermarket one, then no you can't unless your lucky. That driveshaft, from the condition of it looks like it might be a front reused.

Did you buy the jeep with the work already done or did you install the rear shaft, I'm guessing that there is also a slip yoke eliminator on transfer case.
