I have a 1990 XJ Laredo, black color with silver flares, lower doors, rockers.

I am doing so rust repair in windshield area and want to buy paint from Automotive Touchup company...

There are two blacks listed for 1990 year jeeps on the above linked website. Which black, or where can I find the paint code on my jeep? Should there be a paint code info on my jeep, a sticker maybe, if so where? Do I need to cross reference verse the VIN, if so how?
The driver door sticker and engine fire wall stickers do not appear to me to have a paint code, but maybe I am misreading them?

thanks!

And Happy Easter!

I can't tell you for sure on a '90, but my 2k has the info built into the door sticker.

ok, got a code plate, top of firewall, driverside corner, metal plate with lots of codes!

See image in link....

http://painttags.com/chrtag.html

the tag like mine is like the fourth tag down from top, the black one for an 87 Cherokee it shows paint code PX8.

My 90 Cherokee has nearly same tag, and exact same paint code..PX8 as the above linked 87 Cherokee tag.

Now heres the thing, PX8 is not listed as a Cherokee color code as per the Factory Service Manual (FSM) body and paint section. see chart on page 23-127 of FSM. Two blacks are listed in the FSM.....

"DX8, Black Clear-Coat"

and...

"FM9, Black Cherry Pearl-Coat"

So what is PX8, which is what is on my jeeps metal tag?? My tag color, PX8 is not listed as a jeep color on the paint website for paint, linked below, but DX8, the FSM code is listed...

So what if any difference is in PX8 and DX8 Black color?

P:eeks1:perhaps it was a misunderstanding, Jeep Production foreman Steve said, "Hey Joe, set the next tag machine run to stamp paint code DeeX8". But Joe heard wrong, and thought Foreman Steve said to set the stamp machine to "PeeX8"?

Any help figuring what color PX8 verses DX8 is will be hugely appreciated. I am confused!

Might even think about that Midnight Blue Metallic, Dad's '90 was painted that and it took the body shop owner a while to figure out what the color was since we all thought it was black when he bought it used.
