Long shaft or short shaft speedo gear?

I got an NP231 transfer case under the heep right now from a '99 XJ and I'm regearing the axles next week. Need to know if the speedo gear is a long shaft or short shaft. I want to order this asap so I can put them all together at the same time.

If it's a 99, it should be a short shaft.

Early electronic speedos used a long shaft. My 92 MJ does.

I did a little more reading... from what I understand, older cable driven speedometers use the long shaft and electronic speedometers use the short shaft. Can anyone confirm this?

That would mean that my '99 would be short shaft...
