I did something stupid and managed to push the keyless entry board towards the roof and it sparked and no longer works. Fuses are all fine. Can I just get one from the junkyard and get lucky and find the keyfob and have it work? Or will it need to be reprogrammed regardless? Or is the programming in the computer itself?

Always include your Cherokee info, year, engine, Tcase, Tranny, etc., in your postings. The correct answer can and will be different depending what year Cherokee or option equipment you are talking about.
1997-2001, if you find a fob and circuit board in a donor, they should still be matched parts and can be installed in any other 1997-2001 without program changes. Any random 97-01 fob can be reprogramed to the circuit board at the dealership.
