Do I need a new water pump?

My engine monitor says WT° (water temp) is around 170-195 depending on the situation. Dash gauge stays just above 210 but goes to approx 220-230 if I push it on the highway. Does this sound like a case for a new water pump? Just converted my 89 Renix to an open system. New radiator, hoses, cap (16psi), thermostat, and coolant bottle. The wiring on my temp sending unit is a little exposed in some areas, will be replacing the wire+connector as soon as I can eat to a junkyard. Reading could be off, but it does get much hotter on highway and especially going up hills.

Previously I would run at about 210 and also get excessively hot going up long steep grades. Is it possible there is still air in the system that will be worked out? I've only driven it maybe 7 or 8 times since the swap. Gets warm at idle pretty fast.
