Re: Project Unicorn - a light duty trail rig

Ah.

There was the 2wd trans, then there was the bent driveshaft, and the atlas rubbing the crossmember which i trimmed (SFR trans mount also fixes that).

No vibes in forever.

Re: Project Unicorn - a light duty trail rig

WRT that AFE intake, I assume you must be talking to someone there if you have been running a prototype, do you have any idea on whether or not they are applying to CARB for approval? If so, do you have any idea why they are cutting off at '97 rather than '96? Is someone at AFE not aware that '96 is also OBDII?

I like that intake.

Unfortunately that’s where my arb compressor is.

You think the gain is worth moving it?

Re: Project Unicorn - a light duty trail rig

I absolutely do.

TBH, I didn't notice when they added the intake to the car. I hadn't been driving it for a couple of weeks (travel) and then they had it for a week, returning it with the intake installed. I drove it for a couple of weeks, and then gave it back so they can do their dyno testing (after i'd put a couple thousand miles on the ecu and filter). Then I drove it for another 3 months with that intake.

Then smog testing came around and i swapped the factory intake back in (as they hadn't gotten the carb EO yet).

I certainly noticed that. It was like driving around towing a trailer. Sudden loss in acceleration, downshifting more, drop in fuel mileage. I like to be thorough about things, so i put a new wix factory air filter in, and no change.

I'd have told you 1-3 HP from an intake before this and been insistent about it. It was eye opening for me.

Re: Project Unicorn - a light duty trail rig

Production parts for aFe intake are in stock now. First ones off the line are already installed in my car.

Didn't even need to take a photo. Just hotlinking to their webpage. Probably should have washed under hood of my car before I let them take it.

Re: Project Unicorn - a light duty trail rig

I really want this for the Lab Rat. Fingers crossed there will be a Renix version coming soon.

Re: Project Unicorn - a light duty trail rig

From the website:

Large 5-Layer Performance Air Filter:
This Momentum ST intake system was designed around the largest filter possible to allow maximum performance and filtration. This cone filter has a massive round flange and is 8" tall inverted top Pro 5R filter media. The Pro 5R performance air filter features 5-layers of progressively finer mesh cotton gauze oiled media and is constructed with 100% polyurethane frame for long life and multiple cleaning cycles.

Granted, a picture would be nice.

Re: Project Unicorn - a light duty trail rig

Sure looks nice. I don't care for their 5 layer filter as it's no different than a k and n but I have their dry flow filter. It works well and filters better. Have they changed their rubber material on the filter? It degrades a little fast for some reason. The elbow looks like silicone now which is better.

Did they release any Dyno results?

This is awesome, a full high flow air box has always been a dream of mine.

16 horses 19 torque to the ground, over the stock intake, on my car. They did text me the dyno chart, I can't find it now though.
