Been tracking down a leak in my AX15 and identified the shift lever housing as the culprit.
Ordered the shift cover seal and the shift retainer gasket for the shifter ( link to diagram: https://share.getcloudapp.com/WnuGxvrq ).
When I took it apart to install the shift retainer gasket, i noticed some 'extra stuff' -- there is a piece of machined sheet metal where the gasket goes: https://share.getcloudapp.com/NQuDo0jP
All the diagrams and breakdowns I've seen do not have this piece of metal. Any idea if its necessary and what it is/does?
Its obvious that someone has been inside this transmission as there is a ton of messy silicone smeared all around it. Looks like the previous owner was tracking down this same leak (with a tube of bathroom silicone).
Here another pic to give context: https://share.getcloudapp.com/ApujzbP1
When removed, there was a paper gasket under and above the metal sheet, with silicone on both parts.
Appreciate any help you could give.
