242 WJ compatibility?

Hi folks,

Would a 242 from a WJ be a direct swap for a 231 from a '95 XJ? Is there a reference for the different cases in different jeeps?

This has probably been said before, but the only problem you are likely to have is with the input gear - the 231 and 242 cases are essentially the same, and share the same bolt pattern to the transmission. Also, they are the same length, AND I think the output shafts are the same in terms of driveshaft splines.

Anyone want to correct me if I miss my guess?

My understanding is that the front output yokes for a WJ 242 and an XJ 242 (or 231) are different. Maybe you could use the yoke from your 231, I don't know.
