Bought an xj in the mean time while I finish up a chevy on 42s build, itll be long term this is Very short term build. I sold my used 42s and Im going to only use the money I got from selling the 42s. Sold the 42s for 2500. Bought this for 1000. 1987 cherokee loredo 122k miles. Xj came with 4.0L, AW4, NP231, a dana 30 Vac disco front, D44 rear 3.54 gears, Power everything. Going very simple Gonna go 2-4" lift, Radius arm front, fender trimming, 4.27 gears, a roll cage, and 33s. Ill be kickin that curb at the malls ass. Simple, easy, and everything for the most part bolt on. Fabricating parts is getting old. Anyway heres pics and parts of said grocery getter. Also axles I picked up today with 4.29 diffs/gears. Ill swap the gears into my current axles under the jeep. Would just put these under the xj, but they're from a cj-5 narrow track so no luck there.

No one makes 4.27/4.30 reverse cut gears for HP 30.
Better off reselling the axles and getting some 4.56 gears. At the very least, convert your vac-disco to a one-piece shaft.

Your both correct but I have an lp 30 laying around. That came from a tj that im swaping them into or I can just use the high break carriers out of the cj axles and put 4.56s in an hp 30.

I was just using that as a quick reference. I still don't think they work the same. It would be done a lot more if it were. Do a bit more research on that before pulling the trigger. That would suck to have the diff apart and find out then.

Not bad advice. Will do, thanks.

So after some research, your right the ring and pinion will not swap. The carrier will still swap over though. Same spline count same size, just a no go on the ring and pinion. Thanks for the suggestion.
