Broken air? Line

Just wondering what this line is for it’s a hollow tube that leads into the firewall and then to a ball just behind my bumper my best guess was some kind of collision detection any ideas it’s a 99 Cherokee 2dr 4x4 sport

Re: Broken air? Line

That ball behind your bumper is your vacuum reservoir.

Re: Broken air? Line

I don't know what all it messes up, but it certainly has an impact.

I think if you search for terms such as "vacuum ball" and "bumper" you will find some folks who have tried to leave it out when swapping in an aftermarket bumper. Their experiences will probably tell you what goes wrong.
