Bashing the dash to make speedometer work

So sometimes I have to give the dash a thump to get the Speedo and tacho to work, rarely one will work and the other will not.
Have tried dielectric grease on the instrument cluster connector.
I believe itís relatively common problem just canít find the fix.
Any ideas?

My '99 Cherokee would do this. It was so bad I had an app on my phone to get my speed via GPS. Three years back I had the heater core and blend doors replaced and after reassembling the dash the problem disappeared. I'm thinking, in my case, just oxidation or corrosion on the contacts.

Usually disassembly, cleaning plugs, and reassembly seems to fix many of these issues.
