1990 renix runs to rich

NUMBER ONE CAUSE of running rich--o2 sensor needs replacing. Renix era are good for 60k miles--if you don't know how long yours has been in their replace it. I recommend only using Bosch--they invented it and seem to have the best quality.

Next, make sure there are no exhaust manifold leaks UPSTREAM of the o2 sensor mounting bung--leaks like that dilute the exhaust mixture, the o2 sensor reads that as the engine is running lean, the ECU increases the firing pulse of the injectors to correct the non-existent lean condition.

Here is the NUMBAH ONE Renix sensor info site--bookmark it: http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Engine/Basic_Sensors_Diagnostics.htm

Post up what you find.

1990 renix engine seems to be running to rich. is ther a sensor or adjustment?

Not to be blunt...but..... You know this how? That first part is a rather vague comment/question
What have you checked?
Does it smell like gas? strong/weak/faint
good mileage, bad mileage? any lift? tire size? 2wd/4wd? gear size?(any of these can cause bad/differant than stock readings)
injectors-are they leaking causing a smell of gas?
connector at the fuel pressure regulator? -has a bad habit of leaking at the quick disconnect fitting

Check what Joe says and also check for a cracked headed/exhaust manifold and or a loose rear exhaust manifold bolts(very common) in particular.

The site that he links is the best group of Renix sensor tests that we can post up here do to copy right infringement laws and our forums bylaws.

A very commonly overlooked sensor is the air charge sensor and they actually have a fairly high failure rate. It is located on the intake, just to the rear of the throttle body. It can be checked with an ohmmeter.

At room temp it should read approximately 3400 ohms. At 100F it should read 1600 ohms. At 40F it should read 7500 ohms.
