Jacking up the XJ on the stock Gas Skid

Hey guys before I do something silly.
The OEM cherokee Gas tank skid. the seemly ultra beefy skid.
can I jack the rear end up from it ?
Save me from a bad time :)

I sure wouldn't!

I have been doing that for years. I put a piece of 2 X 4 X 2' (2 feet length of 2 X 4) between the jack and the skid. If the skid cannot protect the fuel tank while lifting the XJ with a jack it will never protect the tank coming off a rock ledge,... and my XJ have come down hard on the skid many times.

Beefy?! Wut? It is thin and flimsy. The 2x4 is a good idea, if you just put a jack under it it will probably bend and puncture your gas tank

Beefy or not, why would you want to do this ?

Safe, proper, and secure jack points are the axle, the frame rails, the front leaf spring brackets, and the receiver hitch.

Do you need an answer?

Because 1) I love doing it.
2) It have worked great for me for over 17 years.
