i was lazy replacing my rear u joint, so it snapped, which took the whole driveshaft with it. Its a NP242 on a 96. I got an SYE kit (like i shouldve done sooner) but when i run the jeep in 2wd with no rear driveshaft the TC output shaft wobbles. Is this normal? it seeems this would mean it is bent. If it is bent, can I put the SYE kit on and drive it? or do i need a new case or new output shaft right away?

thanks guys

If it wobbles, sounds like it's bent.

Depends on the SYE kit. If it is one with a replacement output shaft, then the SYE is the cure for a bent shaft. If it's a hack-n-tap and the output shaft is bent...you're going to need a new output shaft before you install the SYE.

Don't know about the '99's, but my '89 242 had a long tail cone...couldn't even see the rear output shaft without taking it off.
