Exhaust Couplings

I am about to install a new catalyst, and want to make both ends bolt on, rather than the factory way. I want to add a bolt on connection of outlet of the catalyst to the muffler.

I am considering these Walker Ball Flange types ...

is there any down side problem with this plan?

I want to do this cause...1) I had a catalyst clog on a trail, and want the ability to easily remove it to clean it out if need be. 2) I may want to remove it for off road use where there is a risk of fire danger do to dry grass.

What do you all think about these Walker Ball Flange couplings?

Thanks!

I use slip-fit pipes with stainless steel band clamps.
Everything is stainless, simple, inexpensive, and
easily maintained...

These flex joints are strong and corrosion resistant. V-bands make for easy removal of exhaust components.

I am liking the band clamp, but the butt type verses the lap type, for easier removal, installation.

The vee clamps look kind of like vacuum line fittings, minus the gasket, or oring, but they are pricey, and require welds all around.

So I am leaning to the Band Clamps, Butt Type

I use those in two places under my trail XJ--one at the front where the downpipe connects to the flexpipe in front of the cat, and another at the rear where the muffler connects to the tailpipe. I wanted to have it separate under load when I hit the muffler or tailpipe. The front clamp separates often, but the rear has never separated. I am looking for a stronger clamping action, or maybe tack the band to the pipes so that it will still break but less often.
