I have been wanting to do a trailer build for a little over a year, mainly since I sold my Willys 1944 Bantam trailer.

So I finally got to ordering parts and today got the axle done and the main frame done.

I plan to make it modular so the camping box will be bolt on to the main frame.

I will update this thread as more progress happens.

Got the front part of the frame welded up. We TIG and MIG'ed this part on.

Total weight so far is 106 LBS

Almost rolling, Still got to make the shackles and rear shackle mounts. Then I plan to make U Bolt Eliminator plates and get some bolts for that.

I think it will be fine, it is 7 ft long without the tongue tube.

Got the spring mounts welded and the u bolt eliminators made and got it on the wheels.

25" of frame ground clearance. as of right now 15lbs of tounge weight.

Is there an advantage to using the box tube? I have a utility trailer made entirely of angle iron that's rated for 3500 lbs. Seems you could save some weight by using something like that versus a full box tube.

I dont think that I missed this...but how thick is your square tubing? 1/8, 3/16, 1/4?

It is 1/8" 2x3 the tongue tube is going to be 2x2 .250 wall.

In my mind it is stronger, the frame only weighs 106 lbs so it is not that bad.

I plan to use 1x1 1/8" for the box on top with wood floor and sheet metal sides.

It should be way under 500 lbs empty.

For what it's worth the military quarter ton trailers are made out of C-Channel and they're overbuilt.

Max - That thing put together enough to haul an engine yet? :laugh3:

yup going to probably register it tomorrow, Going to throw some temp flairs on it and wire the lights up tonight.

Got it rolling and took it around the block and it seemed to work good, tested the coupler.

They are working now.

Unfortunately I only had time to get the VIN, AAA said they could not finish the process so back to DMV on tuesday for me to get plates.

DMV had no issues with the coupler.

subscribed!!!

p.s. your makin me look bad

Wait till I start working on the tub!

That coupler is awesome. I'm definitely stealing that idea.

Thanks.

It is made from Grade 8 1" bolts and 1/4" steel collars, 1/4" steel U shapes.

Just so you know I spent more on the bolts than a simple Pintle Hitch would cost.

Has no binding in any direction and has a 360 degree of motion.
