8.25 Fill Plug Leaking Issue

I know that the fill plugs on the 8.25 are notorious for leaking. What have you guys done to stop it from leaking without making it harder to get off when needed? I thought of RTV, but wasn't sure how much of a hassle it would be to get off when re filling.

Whenever I see someone with the rubber plug, I typically end up suggesting they buy two or three (even if they don't need them at the time) and throw them in the glove box. It's a cinch they will need them - and it's better to have one on hand than have to go find one...

I bought a Keltrol stainless steel diff cover for mine,
with a screw-in fill plug. About 80 bucks @ Summit.

It sure looks good going over the speed bumps at
the mall now......

When I used the factory stamped steel differential cover I applied a thin coat of RTV to the area around the hole and inserted the plug... A thin coat of RTV will seal the plug and still allow the remove of the plug when needed.
