Gas Treatment

I will be back in the US the end of the week after being gone for a year. It is a give that I will meet a dead battery that I may not be able to revive :bawl:. I am afraid also that the gas in the tank would have evaporated leaving some sort of gell or shellac residue.

A few years ago when returned after a long abscence, I did not treat the gas/tank and ended up removing it a few weeks later clean it to cure the problems I had (blocked fuel filter and fuel pump strainer) with keeping the XJ running. This time I want to avoid removing the gas tank if I can.

How effective are fuel additives? What are the negatives that I would encounter using these additives?

For the future I would recommend using a fuel stabilizer.

As for additives, just make sure whatever you buy is ethanol compatible.
