Important

I heard the baby's heart beat today.
We are having an anatomy scan on the 30th. I guess they will be able to show a whole 3D image and even know the baby's weight.
A lot has changed in nine years since I had Ryan. Heck I didn't even believe them at first that they could know the sex after testing Heidi's blood as early as the end of the first trimester.
Crazy and exciting!

That has to be an awesome sound, I know I will get to hear that someday, can't wait until it happens.

I asked my Dad. He has been a laboratory technologist for over 30 years. He said they draw blood from the mother, extract fetal dna, then check that or a male chromosome. It can be done around week 11 and is 99% accurate.

I bet it is expensive. Bout time that insurance gets used for something other than picking metal out of my eyes.

We never had a blood test for the sex or a 3 or 4d imagine for either of ours.

Never heard of the sex reveal from blood. Interesting.
We were told its going to become standard practice soon. We were required to get it because they can use it to rule out downs syndrome as well. We were in a high risk category because of some abnormalities in the first ultrasounds. The test (harmony test) is 99.99% accurate in testing for downs without any disturbance to the baby.

They asked us if we wanted the downs test and we declined.

They asked us about the downs test also but it would cost more. I asked them if there was anything we can do if she had it and we found out early. They said no. So I said no need for the test then, I'll find out in a few months for free.

That was our take on it as well.

...and what if there were problems...

the test also ruled out other genetic defects as well that could have changed how things proceeded with the pregnancy. we always said we would accept whatever baby we were given, but the doctors wanted to make sure they were doing everything they could ahead of time and to make sure they wouldn't have to do any surgery prior to the birth. with a simple blood test they were able to rule out most genetic defects and some pretty scary sounding procedures, and it was 100% covered by insurance. it was also 100% safe, unlike an amnio.

We had to have an ultrasound every month, a fetal echo scan (full heart scan), harmony test (the blood test) and a few other things i can't remember. we also had to meet with specialist several times. he was actually great...he was the first person that made my wife feel at ease through all this. this was all because a measurement at the base of the babies neck was slightly enlarged on one of her first ultrasounds. we were told there was a 1 in 10 chance that something could be seriously wrong...fortunately, she came out 100% fine.

Just replaced the low beams on my Accord, at least Chevy made the N Body Malibu easy to replace all the bulbs. Pull up two tabs and pull out the headlight assembly. On the accord, you have to pop three pin things holding the wheel well liner in and reach up to the bulbs with your hands to remove the low beam. I don't even want to think about the high, turn and drl bulbs.

Got hurt at work last night...may have torn my Achilles.

Not fun. Off my feet til an appointment at the ortho doc on Monday or Tuesday for an MRI to find out the damage.

Achilles tear will be surgery and 6-10 weeks of recovery...really hoping its a bad sprain and the ER PA was just a little over zealous.
