First time jeeper!!! Installed RE3.5 heavy duty short arm lift kit.
Looking to protect the rig with rock sliders. Looking for opinions on which ones to stay clear of and which ones are Awesome in the $250 - $500 range.
I don't want to weld one, and thinking of only getting the ones that bolt to frame and pinch seam.

Bare metal is ok, i need the upper rails for steps, and prefer the kickout for extra protection. Custom fabricators will suffice.

My favs are the Rocky road super kick outs but take 5-6 weeks for delivery.
Nates seems cool, but do those clamps work (no kickout)?
JCR has the bare metal option which i like but no kickout.
Affordable offroad is bare but no kickout or seam install.

Thanks for your input and time and Happy Trails

The round tube style kickers don't work well as steps specially when they get wet/muddy. Can you weld?

The JCR classic ones have the outer tube rail. Or do you mean like the overland Yota style kickout by the rear tire?

I had a set of single-square bolt-ons from Custom 4x4 for a few years, they took quite a beating.

I have the JCR without any kickout. They work great and were easy to install, howerver I now wish i had the kickout to use as a step as I have added a rack and a rooftop tent.

As someone mentioned above you have to be careful using round tubes as steps if there’s mud/snow/water/ice on the tubes or your shoes.

Kick outs are also good for pivoting around trees/rocks in tight situations.

This is why I should have added kick outs to mine when I built them, the rocker panels and lower door edges still beat.

I recommend buying them with kick outs, may prevent some damage.

I don't have kickouts on mine, never needed them, I have slammed, ridden and flopped on these sliders more times than I can keep track of and they've held up super well, even been through a t bone accident in which the other car was deemed totalled, xj didn't even get a scratch. Rock-hard 4x4 might be an option to consider! My xj wouldn't be here today if it weren't for them!

Did you ever decide on a set? Those rocky road sliders look legit. I'd love to see some pics if you went with those. Thinking about a set for my rig. It's hard to justify double the price of normal sliders though.

I take it you've never tried to buy something from them? :nono:
