New switch panel

OP-Did you add some sort of trim to the box after you cut the angle to fit the roofline? Very nicely done!!!!

Yes, just a roll of that door edge guard stuff you buy at any auto parts store. Was a little tough to fit it because the box is a few mm thick, much thicker than sheet metal, esp hard around the corners. I had to make relief cuts on the inner radius to get it to fit in one piece around the corners, but it was obviously doable. Finishes it off nice and keeps it from tearing up the headliner.

Yep, just door edge molding. Little hard to get on the box since it is about 1/8" thick, and the corners were a little tough, just trimmed out the inner side and it folded around them nicely.

The current required to trigger a relay is on the order of milliamps, so cat5e is easily capable of that. The big issue with cat5e is that it is solid strand wire, rather than multi strand like typical automotive wiring, which means it has less ability to stand up to vibrations/harmonics/etc, meaning it could break more easily because it is not as flexible. Haven't had any issues so far

Having been in the telecom industry for 17+ years, with an intimate knowledge of Cat-5e and Cat-6 network design and installation, unless the solid wire UTP Cat-5e/Cat-6 is left dangling in the breeze where is can wiggle around, be subjected to constant movement or foot traffic, it will hold up just fine for this noted application of triggering relays.

Stranded UTP Cat-5e/Cat-6 cabling is typically used for patch cords between termination panels or wall plates and data distribution equipment, where constant movement and flexibility is important.

Either product will work for automotive relay triggering application, however, stranded patch cords might be more easily accessable to the average Jeeper, as you can purchase them in pre-cut lengths ranging from 3ft to 50ft at HD, Lowes, BestBuy, RadioShack, etc. You can simply snip off the RJ-45 male plug end and install your preferred automotive wire terminals.

24ga too small to crimp in an automotive connector, you say? Solder and heatshrink is your friend.
