90 brake caliper diffrences ?

I worked on my 90 XJ front brakes for the first time.. and I was kinda surprised by what I saw. The caliper bolts are tiny.. 8mm 12pt heads ! Why so small ? My 89 takes a big ol bolt comparing to the 90.

Well, I was also looking at brake pads for the 90.. seems like its a special year, where only the brake pads fit 90 only. Do I have a inferior brake system on the 90 comparing to 89 older and 91 newer ?

90 was a changeover year. New outter knuckles, hub bearings, rotor and calipers.

for the better or worse ? it looks to be lighter duty than my 89

The 90+ has one piece knuckles (incorporated caliper mount) and calipers are said to have a slightly larger piston.

From what i read these are said to be stronger, but i'v never had issues with either personally.

1990 - 2001 CHEROKEE

1990 WAGONEER

1990 - 1992 COMANCHE

1990 - 1995 WRANGLER

1993 - 1998 GRAND CHEROKEE

1997 - 2006 WRANGLER
