Hood Insulation

How do we feel about the factory hood insulation on our XJs?

My 2000 and 2001 never came with; often wondered if the 2000-2001s didn't have it since there is enough heat under the hood already.

I like the idea of adding it to reduce noise levels but wonder if it's prudent.

I almost pulled the trigger on ordering it tonight but got "cold feet".

Thoughts?

The models with the California / Federal emissions package already get hot enough with the extra cats in the engine bay. I wouldn't want anything helping to keep that heat under the hood.

I have it on mine.. well still part of it. Had to cut it up for the hood vents. It didn't come with it and I doubt it does much to keep heat in the engine bay, but it does protect the paint on the hood. However, i would buy something aftermarket instead.

Talyn, refresh my memory, your Jeep has the underhood cats?
