Ball Joint fitment

So last year when I got my current XJ first thing I did was replace front upper and lower ball joints, u-joints, and wheel hubs. (along with a bunch of other maintenance) the drivers upper balljoint slipped up about 1/4" I can see the splines. The old one was in there fine and had (I assume) close to 170k miles on it (because that was the mileage on the odo)

My question is, what's more likely?

A: I damaged the knuckle taking the old ball joint out? Or

B: Moog ball joint that's out of spec causing it to slide up?

for reference I used the same autozone rental balljoint press to take out and install all four ball joints (and ujoints but those were done after), none of the others are slipped and my last XJ I didn't have this problem either and I replaced the same stuff.

Thanks!
