Long time lurker, first time poster.

2001 Jeep Cherokee sport. Stock engine/trans, rebuilt np231 with hd sye, hp 44/Ford 9" axles.

I'm chasing down a grinding noise my Jeep is making and currently have my transfer case off, thought it would be a good idea to give my output shaft a wiggle. There is some play, so I'm assuming it's the bushing. I have found a couple threads on doing the bushing on a 2wd aw4 but not a 4wd aw4. Has anybody done this repair before, or knows if end play is fine there?

I got a used aw4 from a buddy for a 12 pack, he had no idea what condition it is in. But the fluid is brown, smells burnt so I'm guessing it's probably in poor shape. It has about the same amount of play in the output shaft though.

If anyone needs more info or for me to rephrase something I'll do the best I can. Thanks in advance.
