Winterfest anyone ?

Well I was tempted to take vacation time and come experience it if skeins has an extra seat . My XJ is far from ready to be wheeled but could make the drive out !

I posted in you thread in the WF section. Briefly: you can ride with me Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, but I suggest trying some of the easier stuff at least one day.

Awesome I replied in the other thread but figured I’d say more here . I just got done lifting my XJ and it is mechanically sound but it has no skid plates not even a gas tank skid , open diffs , no recovery gear yet or anything and I don’t want to tear it up if possible so I’d like to wait to do much wheeling until I have some protective gear before I go playing in the rocks etc

Take it as long as met the minimal requirements, play with it in the creek or on the easy trails then ride with someone who does more. I took a sagging rear suspension xj many years and the worse thing I did was dent the rockers. I didn’t have skid plates even after lifting.

The worse I ever did wheeling stock was dent my rockers, but it was slowly turning into a toy so didn’t care. If you are lifted already, you can do quite a bit without worrying about body damage. As I said, being lifted you should be able to do easiest trails, creek and quarry without worrying about damage.

To this day I don't have a gas tank skid. It usually hits the shackles before it hits the tank. Now I did it, gas tank hole soon. Recovery gear(tow points) are required. Bolt on front tow hooks are easy and cheap. The rear is a little more involved. Easiest is prolly a hitch, but takes away ground clearance. Open diffs can do a lot of the trails at Badlands. As far as tearing it up, none of us want to but body damage and breakage is always a possibility. Any hard obstacles on the easy trails all have a way around. You don't have to do anything you aren't comfortable with.

So having said all that, I think you should come to WF. Ride with me or try out your XJ its all good. Some people come with a car just to hang out and party with like minded people. The fires are awesome and you can always find some one to talk about jeeps. You get to see some cool rigs too:

Some times I think a small jeep is more fun.

Thanks for the pictures I’ve been searching for them today and watching videos ! I am not sure I can meet all the criteria before the event but I will try if I am able to make the trip!
