Hi guys,
My 90 XJ Limited 4.0 auto has developed a hesitation and then surge when feeding it gas from a full stop, seems to be worse when cold. I'm thinking TPS or maybe fuel filter...anyone have any other ideas?

#1. If not done recently, replace spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter.

#2. If it is still happening, test AND adjust your throttle position sensor. Your vintage is adjustable.

#3. Still symptomatic after that, check your fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail.

BirchlakeXJ has it right.

However, I would move #2 to #1, and #3 to #2.

Always test first, then only replace parts when necessary or due for routine maintenance.

In these hard economic times we all want to do our patriotic duty to boost spending, but lets do it the smart way.
