leaf springs groaning when turning

Hi everybody,
As you may or may not know, I am a newbie. so here's a new newbie question.

My 87 XJ has a 3" lift. I don't know what kind since it has been on the Jeep for at least a couple of years (the guy put the lift on in the mid-90s, I think) and I just bought the XJ a couple of months ago. When I make 90 degree turns at a moderate speed, the leaf springs creek. Is this something I should worry about? I'm a complete novice when it comes to suspension.

The rear sway bar is connected (for now) and I do not know how old the shocks are. Most of the driving is on the street, since I am waiting for new shocks and a front tow-point (receiver hitch) before hitting the trails.

Thanks!
Dave

could be mud in between the springs I get that all the time. Sounds worse when the axle gets burried in dirt it creeks a lot.

Check the leaf spring bushings too.
