The passenger shaft on this D44 from a 80s XJ have some up and down movement. It have been like that for years. Lately, it seem to be getting worse and making a noise that speed dependent. it is noticeable at about 45 and the frequency increases with speed. It do not move in and out just up and down. How would you diff specialists remedy this?

One other thing, I need a bearing for the front/pulley of the air conditioner compressor. Where is a good place to shop for one?

You would need to pull it down to see whether it the bearing or the shaft(maybe even both). I did have one that actually cracked the housing right where the bearing seats.

I pulled the cover off earlier and everything look amazingly good considering it (the rebuild) was about 150,000 miles ago. The clutches in the ECTED are worn out. The LSD side is almost non existent. The lock side work reasonably well. With the exception of the noise and a slight wobbly shaft, it all look perfect to me.

I am not sure if I want to rebuild this D44 or look for one from a JK to match the front JK D44 with the OEM E-locker. The reason being, I had the same shaft out a few years and replaced the bearings. The outer race was a bit loose in the housing. Later I found out it is a normal complaint for small D44 housing. Some used a hard setting epoxy in a attempt to hold the bearing firmly in place. I have not heard of another way to fix it.

For my AC compressor I found for a Sanden SD-709 part number MT2021 at Auto Zone.

There is also a Koyo DAC3555RD3H. Amazon no longer list it.

Dimensions are 55mm OD, 35mm ID, 20mm race width.

I will try to get one and some idlers for the belt.
