AX-15 Transmission Rebuild or Replace?

I have been driving my 91 cherokee a little too furiously and have worn out what I think is the synchro.

It grinds down shifting from 4 to 3, and it grinds in overdrive

BUT shifting 1-4 is just fine, no noises at all.

It still gets me around fine, but I would like to have the ability to downshift and go into overdrive.

Should I go for a rebuild? or a whole transmission replacement?
which is cheaper?

and does anybody know a guy who does this kinda thing in his backyard for cheap? or should I take it to a shop?

I replaced the Transfer case chain on my 91 cherokee, the tranny is a little bit out of my mechanical range of expertise
