Dead Battery

96 xj running when I put it away, highway use last out in dry cond. battery went dead I charged it up and won't start. No spark from coil?

You are asking US?

How about we ask you!

Engine cranks but won't fire, right? Do you have spark? Do you have fuel pressure at the rail?

If you want to find out if you have spark from the coil, there is a neato thingy you can buy at the parts store that will plug inline with the coil and has a spark gap in it; cast some shade over it and crank the engine and you should see the spark; FYI it is pretty faint so you do need kind of a dark environment to see it.

Engines need 3 things to run
1. Compressed air
2. Fuel
3. Spark
4. Timing (not really a "thing" but 1,2,3 can be present but in the wrong sequence and it still won't work)

Figure out which one it's not getting, then take it from there.

so the coil tests good but is not sending a spark to the distributor cap? if so, is the icm(intigrated control module) that the coil sits on, sending a signal to the coil?

did you test fuel pressure with a gauge while cranking or just have some pressure at the fuel rail when pressing the schrader valve?

could be a bad cps or icm.

No ICM on the 96.

OP--coil is good but you have no spark. If reading you correctly you have fuel pressure--please post up the psi number.

The CPS/CKP crank sensor is essential for spark. Try unplugging/plugging it back in a few times. Your year should have infinite resistance, check it with an ohm meter.

The crank sensor feeds data to the PCM, and the PCM will determine the firing of the coil. You could have a bad crank sensor, problems in the harness between the crank sensor and the PCM, bad PCM, or problems between the PCM and the coil.

Also, did you check for spark FROM the coil or only at a spark plug--your rotor could be broken, you should check it and make sure it is turning when the engine is cranking.
